Chapter 3 - Morning Still 11/6/18

I think maybe the first two days were probably the best. There was so much to see and do. It was a treat to be able to have all these adventures with my kids.

And the countryside was beautiful. Having made the decision to stay on Route 66 as much as possible gave us unexpected opportunities to see America.

You know I have an affection for the road . . . and I especially enjoyed these roads

We made a special side trip to see the World's Largest Rocking Chair . . . in Illinois.

It's the oddest damn thing. It's just sitting there in a self-storage lot. Drawing attention and customers, I guess.

The things we saw on the way from here to there. Like this giant auction lot for Classic Cars. Oh, to be a gadzillionaire . . . I'd have a great time in a place like this.

I wonder if they have any '66 Beetles there?

We were tooling down the road, still in the morning, and I saw this little burg lit from a break in the clouds.

We were on our way to an unusual place. It's a former gym and now it's a . . . well, I don't know what it is.

See what I mean?

Oh, and this place, whatever it is, has several giant things. Well, you can see for yourself.

It must have taken some time, a lot of effort and a good deal of money to make this statue of Alvin and the Chipmunks. But why? Where? And how did they end up here?

There were all kinds of questions.

Oh, hey!! Another giant. And just like with the gas pumps, the girls had to have their picture taken with every giant guy.

Look at his left hand and you can see he's holding an ice cream cone. More on that later.

You can see the Art Deco lettering. So this building, this gymnasium, was built as early as the late 20s. I don't think the elephant was included in the original structure.

And he wasn't the only one . . . elephant, that is.

Lady Liberty?

I wonder if she came with the ice cream cone stand. Maybe, like the giant Ken doll, she's holding an ice cream cone, too.

And, you know, why not have another elephant randomly coming out of the second story wall. Sounds legit.

Finally we came to the end of the elephants. Look familiar? Yeah, we saw one earlier . . . or maybe it was later . . . there was sooooooo much going on during this trip.

And I got another picture of the girls with a pink elephant.

And a picture of the girls by the world's largest tricycle . . . on Route 66, in Illinois.

And just for the heck of it, another picture of the girls with a giant guy.

Yeah, we got a bit silly. But we had a heckuva lot of fun.

And then we got back on the road again.

From here to there . . . every minute was fun.
